THE GREEN WORLD OF WINDHAGER

Sustainability presents itself in various forms, approaches, and opportunities. This complexity makes sustainable actions both intriguing and challenging. From packaging and materials to sourcing and transportation, we make deliberate choices. We provide a diverse selection of products for a greener garden. Our sustainable products are identified by the "Greenline" label in their titles.
Get to work sustainably
Our employees are supported by the provision of company bicycles and a job ticket for the use of public transport. We also provide sufficient charging stations for electric cars on the company premises. These initiatives not only help to reduce our environmental impact, but also promote the health and well-being of our employees while contributing to a positive working atmosphere.
Sustainability at the location
Switching to electric vehicles in our warehouse fleet helps us to significantly reduce emissions, while innovative logistics solutions and optimized supply chains increase efficiency and conserve resources. These measures demonstrate our commitment to more environmentally friendly and efficient operations.
Photovoltaics
Our company relies on photovoltaics and thus sustainably generates around 380,000 kWh of energy per year. By installing solar panels on the roofs of our buildings, we use solar energy efficiently, which not only lowers our energy costs, but also significantly reduces our carbon footprint. This initiative is a key part of our strategy to become more environmentally friendly and energy self-sufficient.
Local
Even if not everything can be sourced regionally: Windhager tries to keep transportation routes as short as possible. Products made from sheep's wool, for example, come from Austria, while the seed trays and pots as well as the mulching paper and wood for many of the birdhouses come from the EU.
Renewable raw materials
Products made from sheep's wool or jute, raffia and hemp have been in the range for a very long time - the variety of products is constantly increasing, as they simply fit perfectly into the garden. But there is now also a cotton/canvas counterpart for classic products such as garden waste bags.
Packed consciously
Since 2014, most Windhager films and nonwovens have been packaged in cardboard instead of plastic. Whenever feasible, we use alternatives to plastics or reduce their usage. Naturally, the priority remains on ensuring product protection.
Durable
Products that do not need to be discarded after one season help protect the environment. Windhager emphasizes durability in certain product variants, leaving it up to the customer to determine the lifespan of the product.
Reusable
Some products, especially those made from natural materials, can be upcycled, giving them a new purpose and a second life. Sheep wool products are particularly versatile and standout items in our range.

At the Head Office in Salzburg, environmentally friendly practices are a top priority. Windhager is distinguished by its implementation of cutting-edge logistics concepts, regular energy optimization, the installation of a photovoltaic system producing approximately 380,000 kWh per year, and the upgrade to a modern LED lighting system.

Numerous electric charging stations are available at the site for the Windhager team's e-vehicles. All employees also have access to a low-cost leasing programme for bicycles and e-bikes. With a financial contribution, the company makes it easier for its employees to access the Salzburg Climate Ticket for one year and promotes environmentally friendly commuting.
